Thank you very much to my postcard partners!

[info]brightshadowsky sent me 2 cards... because she couldn't decide which to send. :-)
The first card is a pastel drawing she did while going to school in Alaska.
What great talent you have! I really love how you did the face... and speaking from experience, the red cheeks and nose pretty much sum up the winter cold exactly!
The second card is a pic with her coworkers (seems like a fun place to work imho) on Pirate Day in Sept. Arr mateys! Through the miracle of Photoshop all the pirates have a hat when otherwise there might be only one... Avast!! :-D

My other talented partner is [info]mariecat who took a peek at my userpics and customized a card for me (blush). She also wrote a phrase from part of the wiccan law on it. Wonderful drawing, [info]mariecat! I don't think it says in my profile either... but my hair is part purple right now too! ;-P

Thanks again to my partners... and though not as artistic as yours, I hope my cards get to you both (and in one piece!) soon.

Top 5 reminder + Cillian's Dark Knight cameo [18 July 2008 | 05:12pm]
cilliansite_rss

Don't forget to submit your summer Top 5!

The deadline for The CillianSite Top 5, the Top 5 TV Shows Cillian Murphy Should Guest Star In, is approaching quickly. We would love to read and include your choices, so take a moment to list your favorite shows that you'd like to see Cillian improve with his guest appearance, and explain what type of role you would envision him playing. Please submit your list to top5 at cilliansite dot com by 31 July.

Scarecrow flashes across the screen, reviewers skip him

The Dark Knight went into wide release in the Americas today, and the reviews for the film are overwhelmingly positive. However, Cillian's appearance is so brief and unimportant to the plot, all but a few reviewers neglected to even mention his role.

With the credits reading only "Scarecrow," it's obvious that Dr. Crane is no longer part of his character's personality—Cillian is on screen for but a few short minutes, with only a couple of glances at his face sans mask. This fleeting, early scene does, however, set up the film as to the state of Gotham since Batman Begins, where scads of fake Batmen attempt to fight criminals, the Scarecrow serving as the visual example.

When Cillian is mentioned in reviews, the consensus is that his appearance is simply a pointless cameo. The Detroit News describes the moment as "a confusing sequence in which Batman breaks up a drug deal and (apparently) captures Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy), a leftover from Begins." The Boston Globe even misinterprets Scarecrow's relationship with the false Batmen, insinuating that he's their leader, because the "unexplained" scene is so difficult to follow. New York sums up the critics' opinion perfectly with "Batman battles ... the Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy in a cameo that comes to nothing)."

Regardless of the brevity of our man's presence, The Dark Knight is definitely worth the watch.

A very pleased first rounder: [18 July 2008 | 08:37pm]

So I was on vacation when all these postcards had to be sent, thus it was a bit of a scramble to get my postcards sent out, but I managed and sent them out on the 11th as required...

Amazingly, BOTH of my postcards were in my giant pile of mail when I got home on the 14th. Very impressive, kudos to both of my partners. =)

The first one was from [info]onewavebreaks, and it was exceedingly thoughtful. The postcard was on a piece of a chocolate box, and on the back was a little bit of everything, the word "silent" was in black, the word "midnight" was in blue, there were doodles, a cat, fish, and Harry Potter. I laughed, it was awesome.

From [info]mitsu_chan, I got a well done (watercolor? I think?) of Massachusetts state bird, the black capped chickadee. Really well done, do you go to school for art? Also, I liked the gel pens used in the writing. Expensive pens, but really cool.

Here's the link to the album where I put everything, please let me know if any of you guys have issues.

Thanks for a great first round! I'm off to see BATMAN. =D *glee*

The second was from [info]aphoriste who used her own photography, and wow, how jealous am I that she has the coast in her own frontyard? )

The St. Louis Post Dispatch has a short review of RASN - does this mean it's actually being released in the U.S.?

Dirty Pretty Things “Romance at Short Notice” (Mercury)

On Romance at Short Notice, Carl Barat and the rest of Dirty Pretty Things seem all too happy to move on from the Libertines-ish guitar pop of their debut Waterloo to anywhere. While they succeed at sounding very different than they did before, spanning punk-funk to whispery acoustic ballads, they also end up sounding like several different bands over the course of the album. Track for track, the band does some interesting things on Romance at Short Notice, but it doesn’t really hold together as a cohesive set of songs.

[exchangediary]

Geez am I ever in love with Anke Weckmann. Something about her style of illustration just grabs me -- I think it's the combination of retro and modern sensibilities and color schemes, but I guess it doesn't really matter what it is, because whatever it is, it's great. Some of my favorite illustrations by Anke are under the cut. )
For more Anke, check out her Etsy shop (which has greeting cards, prints, pocket mirrors, and some other super cute things), her blog and her Flickr page.

I also made some super-quick Anke icons. If you take any icons, please credit both Anke Weckmann and [info]lemonadepoem in your comments or keywords. Comments here are appreciated. Thanks!

Also, a reminder to those of you who signed up for icon requests. If you reserved a space, but haven't gotten your images to me yet, please do so soon. Check this post for a list of who still owes me images. There are also still open spaces, so if you'd like to request some icons, go right ahead!
